GRAY GHOST SAILBOAT PANAMA TO COLOMBIA The Gray Ghost is a luxury class sailing vessel with lots of space and comforts which should be booked well in advance to ensure your space aboard. Gray Ghost is characterized as the laid back and relax boat type, perfect for those who are looking to disconnect and release stress in a relaxing trip over the ocean instead of a party boat. However, those who would like to party into the early hours can do so on the islands. We can arrange to have a fire on the beach, we would provide driftwood. Gray Ghost takes a maximum of ten guests to ensure your comfort and safety. ABOUT THE BOAT: Boat type and capacity: The boat is an Irwin 52 with an overall length of 60 ft and a total weight of 30 tons. Very strong for the open sea for a smooth trip. It can take up to 10 guests. Construction: This boat was built in the USA in 1985. It has been well maintained through the years by a professional team. The construction is made of solid fiberglass which makes this boat a very solid and safe boat. Her layout is most famous among the charter companies for the great space available. Boat space: At the top sides there is plenty of space to lay around and enjoy the sun. Contrasting, there is also a comfortable shaded area to relax and enjoy a peaceful time. Additionally, there is a large hardtop built on the aft, which can swing 4 hammocks very comfortable for those who would prefer to sleep feeling the cool ocean breeze. As to the cockpit area, which is where the captain controls the vessel, there is a large chart plotter GPS wind speed and autopilot controls system. Boat Safety: Two life rafts, 6 people per unit. Also, a mom 9 which is ready to deploy with a pull of a pin. To add, a epirb emergency position system along with a sate phone, and plenty of life jackets to go around. ABOUT THE CREW: Captain Philip has sailed most his entire life. Starting with being brought up living on a lake in the northeastern USA Vermont state lake Champlain. Here, he started sailing a sunfish at the early age of 7. Since then, he has sailed some 100.000 thousand miles in his entire career. He has recently sailed to Tahiti and back in 2016. Currently, he is sailing with his 20 years old son Michael which has spent many miles alongside his dad learning the captain duties. Because of his good learning reference, his dad, he is a very competent sailor as well. They both owned and operated a hotel restaurant business for many years which makes them great cooks which specializes in seafood dinners. There is also a full-time cook aboard to ensure no one goes hungry. Personal comment from the Captain: “We are the green vessel with the gecko as our mascot. As we have been in this area for over twenty years, we know where these secret spots are. Book now as space and availability is limited.” ACCOMMODATIONS: There are 3 bathrooms, 3 private bets, which sleep 2 per bet. There is also a large aft cabin, which has a double bed with memory foam, for great sleeping, as well as a bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink. The salon area is huge and can accommodate up to 2 guests. Basically, there will be sleeping throughout the boat as the vessel has many areas to get comfortable weather outside or inside. There is air-con on board when the generator is running. Hammocks for those who want to sleep on the islands. ABOUT THE TRIP: Duration: 5 days and 5 nights. Route: Puerto Lindo, Panama to Club Marina Nautica, Cartagena, Colombia. Anchorage points: Sometimes the anchorage will be a bit rough which it would be rather avoid. But do not let this worry you, there are many places to see since there are 5 days to enjoy! WHAT'S INCLUDED: Accommodation onboard. 3 meals per day. Water & coffee & tea. Use of snorkeling equipment to explore the great gems of the undersea life of the Caribbean. Hammocks to string up between a couple of coconut trees where you can really enjoy your favorite novel. Tubes to just hanging out and cool yourself off in the Crystal clear waters. Use of fishing gear. Immigration assistance. THE DEPARTURE POINTS & ARRIVAL LOCATIONS: The boat departs from Puerto Lindo Panama. Guests must meet at the restaurant at Casa X hostel at 5 pm on the trip date for a pre-trip meeting. To get there guests must pay for ground transportation. There are 2 options: The public bus: This will cost about $12 total, but you must depart Panama City Albrook bus terminal to Colon by 8 am in order to make what is normally the last connection direct to Puerto Lindo at 10 am. Schedule a seat in a shuttle for $25, see shuttle details below. The boat arrives at Club Nautica marina in Cartagena. From there, guests can easily take a taxi to the main areas Shuttle Details: There is a minimum of 2 guests required for this shuttle to operate. The shuttle costs $25 per guest and will pick you up between 12:30 and 1 pm on the date of your trip. Your driver is Hernan, a very experienced an friendly driver. He will offer to stop at a supermarket along the way to give you an opportunity to purchase last minute items such as sunscreen, toiletries, snacks or alcohol. The $25 shuttle fee needs to be paid to Hernan in cash. The day before the trip we will add you to a Whatsapp group with our team, the driver and other shuttle passengers. This gives us an easy way to send out pick up times, communicate delays and answer questions others might like to know as well. To sign up for the shuttle all we need from you is a confirmation reply that also includes your pick up location in Panama City. Surfboards and kitesurf gear cost $5 additional for the shuttle, please let us know in advance if you are bringing these so our driver can plan to fit these along with the passengers and baggage. COST & PAYMENT BREAKDOWN: Trip Total Cost = $550 $50 deposit payment made to Cacique Cruiser to reserve your spot. $500 per guest to be paid in cash to the captain. This price does not include the $22 Guna territory entrance fee which also must be paid in cash to the captain when requested. This fee goes to the Guna congress to help provide for the needs of the school etc. This price does not include transport from Panama City to the boat departure point. If the available dates or boats do not work for you, consider going round-trip to the San Blas islands from Panama City then flying to Colombia. Often reasonable flight prices can be found on Viva Colombia or Wingo. And we offer many round-trip options to the islands from Panama City. BE PREPARED WITH THE FOLLOWING: Separate your luggage into two bags. One small ‘day pack’ for what you will need for the time on the boat and your main bag/backpack which will be stowed away. It is also advisable to protect luggage with large plastic trash bags. Snacks and beverages you want for the trip. We recommend shopping in Panama City as there are no big shops near the boat departure point. 2 copies of your passport. Cash to pay the ground transport, entrance fees the balance due on the sailboat trip, and any spending money you want for the trip. Sunscreen. Tight fitting T-shirt to snorkel. Mosquito repellent for nights without wind and evenings ashore. Sweatshirt or a light raincoat for the night.
